Mortal Shell II ran an open beta across PC and consoles before launch. The Steam open beta launched on June 5, 2026, and the console open beta followed on July 31, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The beta let players experience roughly the first three hours of the game, with a portion of progress carrying into the full release.
Beta and demo dates
A limited Steam playtest build had a release date of April 3, 2026, with invites ending June 30, 2026. The public Steam open beta went live June 5, 2026, announced around Summer Game Fest.
What the beta included
The beta covered the opening hours, including the first Shells, early weapons, and the Mushroom Village region. It also carried a Prologue-skip option and an exclusive Flayed Harbinger cosmetic into the full release.
Is the beta still playable?
With the full release now out on August 20, 2026, the open beta has ended. There is no need to play the beta: the full game includes everything the beta teased and more. It is unconfirmed whether any demo remains listed on Steam.
